Miss Fix-it

Hey there! How was your week?  Mine was pretty fine but not too eventful.  I did have two terrible things happen between yesterday and today though!

This is my favorite coffee

and this is the bottom of the can!

The thing is our Trader Joe’s isn’t open yet so I had to go to HEB to refill my coffee stash.  Did the price of coffee go up?  My 1 lb bag of Breakfast blend was $15!  Ouch Crying face  The grand opening for TJ’s is scheduled for October 19th and it can’t come fast enough!

This here is my little coffee/smoothie corner in the kitchen.  When I got my super expensive coffee home I went straight here to make my coffee only to find my Keurig was sputtering at me.  It only put out a couple of drops and then died.

I thought that maybe it was a fluke so I ran it again and I once more received a lot of noise from the motor, a sputtering and only a couple of drops of coffee.  Disappointed smile Oh nos!  This wasn’t even about the need for caffeine.  I have a lot of studying to do and it’s super gray and dreary outside.  I needed the comfort of my warm, caffeinated, little cup of joe! After a brief panic and contemplation of running to the store to get a new coffee machine, I decided to see if I could fix it.  A quick google search produced an article explaining how to use a paper clip to remove a potential clog inside the machine.  So I got my paper clip,

opened her up and started poking around the drip pin inside the machine.  It took about 4-6 times of running the machine but by the 6th time, the water was flowing forth from my little machine.  Success!  I ran it through with some vinegar to clean out the pipes and then made my coffee.  A study session ensued

I still haven’t been able to try out my new watch because of thunderstorms but I plan on trying tomorrow morning. Assuming there are no more storms. The one nice thing about them is that San Antonio has cooled down a lot . . . at least for now. I’m not sure if it’s going to warm back up or stay in the 80-90s until November. One other good thing about colder, gray days?

Emily’s Black Bean Butternut Squash Chili

I adapted her recipe using:

  • 1 can chick peas, 2 cans red kidney beans
  • fire roasted tomatoes w/garlic
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne
  • I added kale at the end of cooking

I’m off to go get some more studying done and watch some back episodes of Grey’s Anatomy.

Have a great night!
